| Hey guys,
I've got some news. I've just been offered a job in DC. 50/50 chance I'll accept it... we are still in the negotiation phase.
I've got a question though. I really don't want to leave the gaming group. You guys are fun as hell and the stories are great and even though I game with other groups of people that I like - you guys are the highlight of my gaming month! I really love the sense of humor and the laid back let's have fun attitude that you guys have to gaming.
If I did accept the job... would you guys be open to me remote gaming with you? I was thinking that I could get a laptop and just leave it with you guys... put a good HD webcam on it with pan/tilt/zoom... and an awesome table mike and keep right on gaming.
The job is with a division of the federal government so I'm anticipating a bunch of off time as well so I would make the occassional trip down to NC for some gaming fun as well.
I was also thinking that I could tape a laser pointer to the webcam so that I can point to the board to indicate mini positions and stuff like that.
I'm trying to figure out if I can get some remote headsets for you guys which might actually help cut down on the store noise.
Anyway... like I said... it's 50/50 that I will take the job in DC. I'm not really a DC kinda chik so to say that I am "scared to death" thinking about moving there - it is an understatement. I just wanted to check in and see if you guys were open to the suggestion should this happen.
And also... if I do end up moving to DC... you ALL have a place to crash should you sojourn up into the area.

| Congratulations on the job offer, Jessi. Hopefully it's a good move for you, although it will be horrible to lose you from the group. The remote gaming's a good solution, I'm just not sure how it work in practice. But them I'm a dumb old luddite, so what do I know?
Seriously though, I understand the fear but if the job fits you, then go for it.

| It's 50/50 that I will take it. Still a bit more to go before it's a done deal. And then there is the background check... They are going to love doing the background check on me
I've been talking to people who are part of a group that has members who do remote gaming. They say it works really well if you have 1 person doing it... get's harder if you have 2... and is really hard with 3.
If you guys are open to it I would like to try. I would take care of getting the system together and getting it all tested well prior to any kind of move.

| Yeah for you Jess! It certainly sounds like an interesting opportunity. I'd be open to trying the remote gaming and we can see how it goes. I hope it's everything you need it to be, though it will be sad if you're not around.

| @Russ - yeah.. I'm a programmer. I'm not excited about DC but it definitely sounds like a better fit than my current team's operational style.
@Michelle - The thing in DC sounds like a better fit for me given the recent diagnosis... but seriously... if the remote gaming doesn't work then I would consider driving down every other Saturday...
That may sound a bit crazy... but one of the guys that would be on my team in DC has a house in Southern Pines and he and his wife drive down to the house every weekend. Evidently crazy is pretty common in DC
I may end up doing the same thing... buy a house here in NC and then drive down on the weekends. I really do like NC. It's home. I don't know that DC could ever feel like home to me.
